Extend the service time of the EDM small hole machines

In the field of precision manufacturing, EDM small hole drilling machines are indispensable core equipment.  It is widely used in key industries such as mold manufacturing and aerospace component production. However, for such precision equipment to maintain excellent performance over the long term, daily maintenance is by no means an optional “add-on” – it directly determines the equipment’s service life and processing quality. To keep EDM small hole drilling machines operating continuously and stably, the following three maintenance points are crucial.
1. Proper Lubrication Management: Protecting the Equipment’s “Power Core”
Lubrication is to an EDM small hole drilling machine what blood is to the human body. It is necessary to regularly add special lubricating oil or grease of the specified type to all moving parts. For components that operate under long-term high loads, such as spindle bearings and linear guide rails, adequate and suitable lubrication can effectively reduce frictional resistance, minimize heat generation, and fundamentally prevent component deformation or damage caused by overheating. However, it should be noted that more lubrication is not necessarily better: excessive lubrication can attract dust from the air, forming oil sludge deposits that actually hinder heat dissipation. Therefore, precise control of the lubricant quantity is crucial.
2. Strengthen Electrical System Inspections: Avoiding Safety and Precision Risks
The electrical system is the “nerve center” of stable equipment operation, and daily inspections must be thorough. First, check whether power cables are damaged or aged, and whether connectors are loose or have poor contact – unstable current supply can not only easily cause equipment failures but also pose a risk of short circuits. Second, test the functions of buttons and knobs on the control panel one by one to ensure accurate signal transmission. Special attention should be paid to the discharge parameter setting module: as the core component controlling processing effects, even minor parameter deviations can lead to workpiece scrapping. Furthermore, regular calibration of the servo drive system can ensure uniform and stable electrode feed rates, further improving the surface finish of machined parts.
3. Ensure Cooling System Stability: Controlling Temperature Rise During Processing
EDM generates a significant amount of heat during operation. If this heat cannot be dissipated in a timely manner, it will severely shorten the service life of components. Therefore, the stable operation of the cooling system is crucial. During daily maintenance, first check the working status of the cooling water pump, ensuring that the coolant pipelines are unobstructed, the flow rate is sufficient, and the pressure meets standards.
At the same time, observe the color and transparency of the coolant: once turbidity, odor, or other abnormal conditions appear, it usually indicates that the impurity content in the liquid exceeds the standard. In such cases, the coolant should be replaced immediately to prevent impurities from clogging the filter and affecting heat dissipation efficiency.

Consistently implementing the above three aspects of daily maintenance can inject lasting vitality into EDM small hole drilling machines. This not only significantly reduces the probability of sudden failures and ensures production continuity but also slows down equipment aging, allowing this high-value fixed asset to continue creating benefits. For enterprises, well-maintained equipment is not only a “reliable partner” in high-quality production but also an important support for improving product quality and enhancing market competitiveness – every careful maintenance operation lays a solid foundation for the long-term development of the enterprise.
